Introduction

A standard wine tasting at a Franschhoek estate costs about R145, a little less than in Constantia and more than in any other Cape valley. Half the estates charge between R85 and R150. This page lists what each estate charges for its standard tasting, taken from the prices it publishes on its own website, so you can plan a day in the valley without phoning around.

The price list further down follows Winetrip's records: when an estate's price is rechecked, the list changes with it. The figures in the text were read on 12 October 2026, after the prices of 21 of the 22 estates in the list were rechecked on their own websites. The tasting price index has the same figures for every region.

What you get for the price

A standard tasting is a set of the estate's current wines, poured in small measures at the tasting room counter or at a table, with someone to talk you through them. It's the price in the list below, and it's paid per person.

Franschhoek's estates add their own:

  • Cap Classique. Several estates make only sparkling wine, or put it first, so a tasting may be a flight of Cap Classique rather than still wines. Where to taste Cap Classique in Franschhoek lists them.
  • Pairings: each wine with a chocolate, a piece of nougat, a macaron, cheese or charcuterie. They're worth booking ahead at busy estates. Food and wine pairings in Franschhoek lists the estates that offer them.
  • A premium or reserve tasting: the estate's flagship wines, often seated and slower, for a higher price.

Several of the first prices in the list are for a short flight or a single wine. Anthonij Rupert's R30 buys three wines at its Terra del Capo tasting room by the estate's entrance, Eikehof's R55 a taste of its fortified Cape Ruby, and Leopard's Leap's R60 a single pour of its flagship Pardus. Each estate's page on Winetrip lists all its tastings and pairings with their prices, and says when they were last checked.

Planning the cost of a day

Three or four tastings make a full day. At around R145 each, that's about R435 to R580 per person, before lunch.

Tastings mean someone isn't driving. The Franschhoek Wine Tram costs R350 per adult until the end of October and stops at about half the estates in the list, so a day on it with four tastings comes to a little over R900 per person before lunch. A few estates charge tram guests less: Haute Cabrière pours them three wines for R40, and Holden Manz takes R20 off most of its tastings. Wine tasting without a car has the other ways to get around. A journey planned on Winetrip shows each stop's tastings with their prices and estimates what the day's tastings will cost.

How Franschhoek compares

Across the Cape Winelands, the standard tasting at an estate costs about R100. Constantia (about R150, see prices near Cape Town) and Franschhoek (about R145) cost the most, well above Stellenbosch (about R120, see Stellenbosch's prices) and Paarl (about R95). Around Robertson, a tasting costs about R50. The tasting price index has every region's figures and how they're worked out.
