Introduction

A standard wine tasting at a Stellenbosch estate costs about R120, and half the estates charge between R80 and R150. This page lists what each estate charges for its standard tasting, taken from the prices it publishes on its own website, so you can plan a day of tastings without phoning around.

The price list further down follows Winetrip's records: when an estate's price is rechecked, the list changes with it. The figures in the text were read on 13 October 2026, after the prices of every Stellenbosch estate were rechecked on their own websites: 81 of the 130 estates on Winetrip publish one. Twenty websites ask visitors to confirm their age first, so those estates' prices are from earlier checks.

What you get for the price

A standard tasting is a set of the estate's current wines, poured in small measures at the tasting room counter or at a table, with someone to talk you through them. It's the price in the list below, and it's paid per person.

Most estates also offer more:

  • A premium or reserve tasting: the estate's flagship wines, often seated and slower, for a higher price.
  • A pairing: each wine with a chocolate, a cheese, a piece of biltong or a small plate. Pairings are worth booking ahead at busy estates.
  • Cellar and vineyard tours at some estates, usually booked ahead and ending with a tasting.

Each estate's page on Winetrip lists all its tastings and pairings with their prices, and says when they were last checked.

Every estate's standard tasting

The entry-level wine tasting each estate lists, as the price index counts it: children's, private and masterclass tastings are left out, as are prices per wine.

Planning the cost of a day

Three or four tastings make a full day. At around R120 each, that's about R360 to R480 per person, before lunch. Choosing an estate under R100 for one of them, or a pairing at another, moves that by a hundred rand or so either way.

Tastings mean someone isn't driving. Stellenbosch's Vine Hopper and other ways to visit without a car are worth adding to the budget. A journey planned on Winetrip shows each stop's tastings with their prices and estimates what the day's tastings will cost.

How Stellenbosch compares

Across the Cape Winelands, the standard tasting at an estate costs about R100. Stellenbosch sits a little above that: below Constantia (about R150, see prices near Cape Town) and Franschhoek (about R145, see Franschhoek's prices), and above Durbanville, Paarl and the valleys further out. Around Robertson, a tasting costs about R50. The tasting price index has every region's figures and how they're worked out.
