Introduction

The two wine valleys inside Cape Town differ by about R50 a tasting. A standard tasting in Constantia costs about R150, the highest of any Cape valley, while in Durbanville it costs about R100, the same as the Cape Winelands as a whole. This page lists what each estate charges for its standard tasting, taken from the prices it publishes on its own website.

The price lists further down follow Winetrip's records: when an estate's price is rechecked, the lists change with it. The figures in the text were read on 12 October 2026, after the prices of every Constantia and Durbanville estate were rechecked on their own websites.

Constantia: about R150

Constantia's estates sit on the slopes behind Table Mountain, with Cape Point Vineyards over the hill in Noordhoek, and their standard tastings are the most expensive in the Cape. Only one costs less than R100: Cape Point Vineyards' Lifestyle Experience in Noordhoek, three wines for R75. At the other end, Klein Constantia's cheapest tasting is R250, and its Vin de Constance Experience, three vintages of the sweet wine Constantia is known for, is R1,000.

Several estates offer a range of tastings above the standard one. Constantia Glen has four, from R145 for its second label to R240 for the full range, and Steenberg's tastings run from R210 to R1,075 for the Icon Tasting, which needs 48 hours' notice.

9 of 10 estates in Constantia publish a tasting price. Each estate's page has its other tastings and pairings, and when its prices were last checked.

No price published, so ask when you book: Groot Constantia.

Groot Constantia, the oldest estate in the valley, has no price on Winetrip at the moment: the only one we had came from 2015, and its website sits behind an age check we don't pass. High Constantia's R160 is from an earlier check for the same reason.

Durbanville: about R100

Durbanville's fourteen estates are on the hills north of the city, and four of them charge less than R100 for a standard tasting. Most tastings cost R100 or a little less: Diemersdal, Maastricht, Mellish and Nitida all charge R100, and D'Aria, Meerendal, Klein Roosboom and Hillcrest less.

Durbanville also has most of the food pairings near the city: chocolate at De Grendel for R120, biltong with red wine at Hillcrest for R170, and Cap Classique with macarons at Canto for R280. Diemersdal pours single wines for R20 each and waives a tasting for every R600 of wine you buy.

11 of 14 estates in Durbanville publish a tasting price. Each estate's page has its other tastings and pairings, and when its prices were last checked.

No price published, so ask when you book: Arno Smith Wine, Durbanville Hills, Signal Gun Wines.

D'Aria's, Meerendal's, Klein Roosboom's and Groot Phesantekraal's websites also sit behind an age check, so their prices above are from earlier checks.

What you get for the price

A standard tasting is a set of the estate's current wines, poured in small measures at the counter or a table, with someone to talk you through them. It's the price in the lists above, and it's paid per person. Children's, private and masterclass tastings are left out, as are prices per wine.

Each estate's page on Winetrip lists all its tastings and pairings with their prices, and says when they were last checked.

Planning the cost of a day

Three tastings make a relaxed half day this close to the city. In Constantia that's about R450 per person, in Durbanville about R300, before lunch. Both valleys have restaurants on the estates; see lunch on the estate in Constantia and in Durbanville.

Wine farms closest to Cape Town has the drive to each estate and which open on Sundays. Without a car, City Sightseeing's wine bus runs from the V&A Waterfront to Constantia; wine tasting without a car has the details.

How Cape Town's valleys compare

Across the Cape Winelands, the standard tasting at an estate costs about R100. Constantia is the most expensive valley, a little above Franschhoek (about R145, see Franschhoek's prices) and well above Stellenbosch (about R120, see Stellenbosch's prices). Durbanville sits with the Winelands as a whole, just above Paarl (about R95, see Paarl's prices). The tasting price index has every region's figures and how they're worked out.
