Introduction

A standard wine tasting at a Paarl estate costs about R95, a little less than the Cape Winelands as a whole and well below Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Half the estates charge between R80 and R120. This page lists what each estate charges for its standard tasting, taken from the prices it publishes on its own website.

The price list further down follows Winetrip's records: when an estate's price is rechecked, the list changes with it. The figures in the text were read on 12 October 2026, after the prices of the Paarl estates were rechecked on their own websites.

What you get for the price

A standard tasting is a set of the estate's current wines, poured in small measures at the counter or a table, with someone to talk you through them. It's the price in the list below, and it's paid per person.

Several of Paarl's estates price their tastings by range, so the first price in the list can be a short flight: Babylonstoren's R85 is three whites, and its full tasting of seven wines is R220. Laborie pours its whites or its reds for R95, and a tasting across the range for R150. Food and wine pairings are common too, from chocolate and nougat to Perdeberg's Chenin Blanc with pizza.

Each estate's page on Winetrip lists all its tastings and pairings with their prices, and says when they were last checked.

Every estate's standard tasting

The entry-level wine tasting each estate lists, as the price index counts it: children's, private and masterclass tastings are left out.

25 of 39 estates in Paarl publish a tasting price. Each estate's page has its other tastings and pairings, and when its prices were last checked.

Planning the cost of a day

Three or four tastings make a full day. At around R95 each, that's about R285 to R380 per person, before lunch. Paarl's estates are about 45 minutes' drive from Cape Town.

The Franschhoek Wine Tram's Orange and Green lines stop at Paarl estates around Simondium and Groot Drakenstein, among them Babylonstoren, Vrede en Lust, Plaisir and Noble Hill, so a day of tastings there needs no driver. Wine tasting without a car has the other ways to get around.

How Paarl compares

Across the Cape Winelands, the standard tasting at an estate costs about R100. Paarl sits just below that, under Stellenbosch (about R120, see Stellenbosch's prices) and well under Franschhoek (about R145, see Franschhoek's prices) and Constantia (about R150, see prices near Cape Town). The tasting price index has every region's figures and how they're worked out.
